An off-grid home backup generator is a vital resource for ensuring consistent power supply when living off the grid or during emergencies. Here are a few considerations and options:
Examples of popular off-grid home backup generators include the Honda EU series (inverter generators), Generac standby generators, and Champion portable generators. Assess your specific needs and preferences to choose the best fit for your off-grid setup.
My for a backup power fuel source was propane. Propane is a fuel source that is readily available and can be stored for long periods of time. I also use propane for my cooking range, cloths dryer, grills and smokers, as well as supplemental hot water and heat.
This is the tie in line going down to the powerhouse for generator fuel and building heat. You should do your research and always use high quality materials, also check with local and state code requirements. If you do not have the knowledge or skill to take on the job, ask for help from someone that does.
Once completed, propane will fuel the 22KW generator with fuel. No more worrying about hauling and storing gasoline or diesel. It also allows me to keep the building heated during extreme cold for the LifePo4 batteries to maintain a safe charging temperature.
